How Registration Works
Registration creates a timestamped on-chain record of your work and mints an IP Account — a specialized NFT that represents the work, can own other assets, and will manage licenses once issuance resumes. Here is the full flow, start to saved evidence.
Before you start
Registration takes a few minutes once you have three things ready:
- The final file. The exact version you intend to stand behind — the record fingerprints this file specifically, and a different export is a different fingerprint. If you are not sure the work is final, read Preparing Your Work first.
- The owner’s wallet, connected to Base or Avalanche mainnet. The wallet that signs is the wallet the claim belongs to. You will need a small amount of ETH (Base) or AVAX (Avalanche) for gas — typically around a cent.
- Contributor wallets and splits. The addresses and percentages for every co-writer, performer, and producer you intend to declare. Chasing these down mid-flow is how records end up incomplete.
The registration flow
Connect the owner wallet
Connect the wallet that will control the work, on Base or Avalanche mainnet. Do not file someone else’s work from your own wallet unless the owner has expressly authorized you to administer their records — the signature permanently attributes the claim to the signing wallet.
Open the Registry and click 'Register IP'
Go to the IP Registry dashboard and open the registration dialog with the Register IP button.
Upload the file and enter metadata
Fill in the record’s descriptive fields:
- Title — the name of the work
- Description — a brief summary
- Type — audio, image, or data
- File URL — where the hosted file lives (IPFS preferred for permanence)
Declare contributors and splits
List each contributor’s wallet and share. This declaration is recorded exactly as you enter it and becomes part of the public record — accurate now beats corrected later.
Review the rights declaration and sign
Confirm the claim you are making, then sign the transaction in your wallet. Your wallet will show the network gas cost before you approve. Once the transaction confirms, the IP Account is deployed and the work appears in your dashboard.
Save your evidence
Record the asset hash and the transaction link alongside your project files. These two identifiers are how you — or anyone else — will verify the record later. Store them with the audio, the credits, and any signed split sheet.
What happens on-chain
The transaction writes the exact-file fingerprint, your wallet-signed claim, and the contributor record to the SuedeRegistry contract, stamped with the block time. The contract addresses for both networks are published in the site footer, so anyone can inspect the record directly on a block explorer without trusting this website.
Hosting tip
Use IPFS for file URLs so the content stays decentralized and permanent. But remember that public IPFS uploads may be difficult or impossible to reverse — do not upload confidential agreements, signatures, unreleased audio you are not prepared to have public, or personal information.
What registration is not
Registering does not create legal rights, is not U.S. Copyright Office registration, and does not verify that your claim is true — it records the claim, signed and timestamped. The complete list of boundaries is at Limitations.
